AGLC and the Alberta iGaming Corporation are not the same body
Most pages about Alberta gambling use the two names interchangeably. They describe different jobs, and the difference decides who you contact when something goes wrong.
The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) is the regulator. It registers iGaming operators and gaming suppliers, regulates the content of gambling advertising and marketing for Alberta’s registered operators, and takes enforcement action against registrants that breach its standards. If an operator advertises in a way the rules prohibit, or fails to honour its responsible gambling obligations, AGLC is the body with the power to act.
The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) is the provincial entity that conducts and manages online gaming under the iGaming Alberta Act. Its launch on 13 July 2026 brought private registered operators into the provincial market alongside Play Alberta, the province’s own platform. The Corporation is accountable to AGLC rather than a second regulator sitting alongside it.
The practical order for a player dispute is therefore: the operator’s own complaints process first, then AGLC if the operator has breached a standard. Checking a brand against the AGLC iGaming Operator Register tells you whether it is legal in Alberta at all, which is the single check worth doing before depositing anywhere.

Alberta runs a provincial self-exclusion programme that applies across registered operators. A single registration removes your access to all participating operators, rather than requiring you to exclude yourself site by site.
