AGCO and iGaming Ontario are not the same body

Most pages about Ontario gambling use the two names interchangeably. They describe different jobs, and the difference decides who you contact when something goes wrong.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario is the regulator. It registers operators and gaming suppliers, writes the Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming that every site must follow, and takes enforcement action against registrants that breach them. If an operator advertises in a way the Standards prohibit, or refuses to honour a self-exclusion, the AGCO is the body with the power to fine it or pull its registration.

iGaming Ontario is the entity that actually contracts with those operators to conduct and manage the games. Its agreements are what make a registered private operator legal in the province, and it publishes the list of operators currently live. It is accountable to the AGCO rather than a second regulator sitting alongside it.

The practical order for a player dispute is therefore: the operator’s own complaints process first, then the AGCO if the operator has broken a Standard. Checking a brand against the iGaming Ontario operator list tells you whether it is legal in Ontario at all, which is the single check worth doing before depositing anywhere.
